What, When & Where
RNZPBA Summer School is a five-day residential or daily attendance course held at St Andrew’s College, Papanui Road, Christchurch. Boarders pick up their registration packs in person at St Andrew’s College around 12 noon on Sunday, 7 January. Day students pick up their registration packs from 1 - 1:30pm. Introduction and lessons commence on Sunday afternoon at 2pm.
Summer School concludes at about 12 noon on Friday, 11 January.
Operational Requirements
For RNZPBA Summer School to operate, we must have at least 100 enrolments by 1 November. Please don’t wait until after 1 November to enrol as you may find all the places have been taken. In the event of there being insufficient enrolments for Summer School to take place, your tuition fees will be refunded in full.
Enrolment
Enrol using the online form. Enrol either as a boarder (room and meals included) or as a day student. Day students make their own accommodation and meal arrangements, but can purchase lunches ($50 for the week, Mon-Thu only). The person applying to attend Summer School must be the person who fills in the enrolment form. Forms must have all sections completed, including date of birth,
regardless of age).
Communication
Email is the preferred option. If you do not provide an email address, all correspondence will be sent to you by post.
Rules for Boarders
Participants can arrange their own accommodation or choose to board at Summer School (“live in”). If you choose to live in you must abide by the rules and curfews, which are the same for all boarders — adults, young people and children. St Andrew’s College’s facilities are drug- and alcohol-free. The boarding
facilities will be managed by Dwight Adie from Dunedin.
Supervision
Younger members of RNZPBA Summer School who are living in at St Andrew’s College will be supervised by adult staff; however, children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult (this can be a member of the same band).
Musical Prerequisite Learner pipers and drummers should be capable of playing Green Hills of Tyrol (or similar level tune).
How Your Band Can Help
Spread the word and support the enrolment of your pipers and drummers. Many Bands and some centres help their members financially. Register 9 people from the same band and the 10th person attends for free (tuition only).
Programme
The programme focuses on both individual and group tuition. At the start of RNZPBA Summer School your playing level will be assessed by tutors to help match teaching and learning to your experience. The tutors will also take account of any special goals you would like to achieve during the school. It is very important that you fill in the enrolment form with accurate information.
Fees/Tuition/Cancellation
The budget for the RNZPBA Summer School is carefully planned to keep tuition fees as low as possible. Please see the attached enrolment form for this year’s fees. The complete fee is to be paid with enrolment by 1 November, 2017. Refunds are given only in exceptional circumstances.
If you decide to withdraw, you must make contact with Sheran Hancock.
